I am delighted to have been given the wonderful opportunity to exhibit my dance paintings and prints in the newly refurbished dance studios of the ISTD, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

I continue to be moved by the sheer force of energy dancers have, and the depth of emotion they put into each performance.

The exhibition includes paintings of English National Ballet and their sumptuous production of Sleeping Beauty at the London Coliseum in 2006. Their sheer exquisite beauty and grace take my breath away. I am intrigued by each dancer’s individuality and the strength of feeling in their performances. Their discipline, stamina, professionalism and dedication to excellence are qualities to admire and inspire.

Much of my work has been inspired by the talented students at Laine Theatre Arts, Epsom. Their enthusiasm and commitment have given my paintings more energy. By watching them in class and rehearsal, their skills nurtured by creative, motivated tutors seeking a high level of excellence, I am inspired to push my work further. Listening to the tutor’s use of imagery to explain how a move should ‘feel’, has given me the knowledge to ‘feel’ it as I draw. Combined with the dynamic vitality of their shows, it is no wonder that I want to paint them!
